Presented by Marjorie Searl

This presentation explores the life and legacy of Emily Sibley Watson (1855-1945). Best known as the founder of Rochester’s Memorial Art Gallery and Hochstein School of Music, new research has painted a fuller picture Watson’s contributions, demonstrating that her philanthropic outreach extended more broadly than previously known. Watson’s large inheritance allowed her to support institutions and individuals, establishing her as one of the first local women to chart the course of her own independent fortune. Recorded live on March 13, 2021. Presented in partnership with Friends of Mount Hope Cemetery.
