At age 18, Hilde Kunz left Germany ahead of her parents in August 1938, to find safety in the United States. Trained as a nurse, she worked at Monroe Community Hospital. In 1945, she married Ernst Roche (born Rothschild) and lived in various places around the country and around the world.
