Theme tours focus on a particular topic and are led by tour guides with special expertise in that topic. This year we have a wide variety of fascinating tours, all listed in our 2021 Guided Walking Tours brochure available at the cemetery office and the gatehouse. Tickets for all tours are available online. Members can attend all tours free of charge, so this is a tremendous bargain.
This year we will be featuring two “pop-up tours,” on June 19th and October 2nd. These tours are free – our gift to the community. Visitors are invited to stop in any time between 10 am and 2 pm to a designated part of the cemetery and hear fascinating stories at the gravesites of Mount Hope residents. Our Pop-Up historians bring history alive!
Another innovation is our ensemble tours. Tour goers will find ensemble tours fascinating and fun. Instead of one tour guide, there will be ten or so! Some will be people whom you recognize from other tours, and some will be new faces - tour apprentices who are studying to become tour guides. You will be part of a group and you will be escorted from one site to another, hearing stories at each stop. Some tour guides will show photos or visuals or artifacts to help you understand how the person buried at each gravesite contributed to early life in Rochester.
We hope that you will join us for our three upcoming ensemble tours, and let us know what you think about this kind of tour. We at the Friends of Mount Hope love your input. We are all about tours, tours, tours!
In addition to our public tour program, we have a variety of weekday tours to give all community members an opportunity to learn about Mount Hope Cemetery. Please contact us for more information.
