York and Margaret Kunz - Mount Hope Cemetery Holocaust Archive

York Kunz was born in Xions, Poland, in 1883. In Germany, he was educated at the Berlin Medical School and practiced medicine in Frankfurt am Main. He and his family were among the fortunate ones able to obtain visas soon after Kristallnacht, and they left Southampton, England, on the ironically named S.S. Deutschland, a liner bearing the name of the country that had revoked their citizenship.

In Rochester, Dr. Kunz became an attending physician at Monroe Community Hospital. He died on July 16, 1957.
