Rochester was the center of national attention in November 1872 with the arrest of Susan B. Anthony for voting in the election. Just days into the same year, the city was in the national spotlight for more sinister reasons. Following an arrest for a brutal attack on a young girl, a riot ensued, tinged by race and ethnicity. Monroe County Sheriff Joseph Campbell, determined to ensure due process, called out the militia. The resulting mayhem became national news!
